Working in a Staffing Office, we see quite a few candidates who bring aspirations for fascinating, high power and lucrative jobs. We do our best to find the absolute best jobs we can for every person who walks through our door, but there are times when we all have to lower our expectations and take a lower paying or lower level job to learn a new skill, get a foot in the door or be able to pay the light bill. But as you begin that less-than-perfect job, keep in mind that no one begins at the top. And you’re in good company.
Do you know what some of today’s most successful personalities have done in their past lives? Here’s a sampling:
Barack Obama , current president of the most powerful nation on earth, was an ice cream scooper at a Baskin Robbins store.
Brad Pitt once had a job where he dressed up like a giant chicken to promote a restaurant.
Oprah Winfrey was a bagger at a grocery store.
Warren Buffett, the mega millionaire, had jobs as a paperboy and a grocery bagger.
Jim Skinner, CEO of McDonald’s, started as a manager trainee at one of the McDonald restaurants
Chris Rock, before becoming the successful comedian and actor, worked as a busboy at a Red Lobster restaurant.
Before becoming a bestselling author, Stephen King used to pump gas for a living.
Madonna got her start working in a Dunkin Donuts store.
Rod Stewart was once a grave digger (blech).
Ozzy Osbourne worked in a slaughterhouse (kind of explains a lot, doesn’t it?).
So…. as you lament about either your lack of a job or a stepping-stone job that you may have today, remember – keep working hard and excel at whatever you’re doing. Better things are around the corner!
